Steven Shaw Obituary

76 year old, Albion resident, Steven L. Shaw passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri after many years of battling various health challenges. Many doctors have said that Steve willed his self to live, and he would tell the doctors “I am the wellest, sick person you will ever see.” Steve never met a stranger and was never short on funny stories. He had the most positive outlook on life even through all his health issues, he always looked at life as his glass was half full and never half empty. Many people will remember Steve as co-owner of Shaw Brothers Packing with his brother, Wayne, he was later a salesman for Sysco Foods.

Steve was born on April 19, 1948 to Eugene and Naomi (Schofield) Shaw in Albion, Illinois.

Steve leaves behind his loving wife of 56 years, Janice (Roosevelt) Shaw, along with 4 children, Sheila (Scott) Wallace, Jason (Jenny) Shaw, Shelly (Matt) Carey and Sheena (Ryan) Hillyard also Nancy Evans and her children that he thought of as one of his daughters.

His grandchildren which were his greatest joys. Whatever the grandkids were involved in he was sure to support them. Jeffrey (Emily) Wallace, Justin Wallace, Abri Carey, Alex (Jeff) Jackson, Jakob and Jenna Shaw, Rihanna and Ryker Hillyard and great-grandchildren, James and Jackson Wallace, Carter Rae Jackson,  a brother, Wayne (Elaine) Shaw. He also leaves behind a lot of good friends including the Wednesday morning breakfast club. He also loved building old cars with his good friend John James.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Jerry and infant brother Larry.

The family has 2 requests. First, if you do not know the Lord as your personal Saviour, the family asks that you seek to gain that personal relationship with God. Steve placed his faith in God and was saved later in life and it was through Jesus that he was able to gain his strength to face his health challenges. The family has found great comfort in John 14:1-3 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God, believes also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” Secondly, the family as that you consider registering to become an organ donor. Steve was given the gift of life by receiving two liver transplants 20 years ago. Steve’s family is forever grateful to two families that made the decision for their loved ones to be organ donors.

Steve was blessed to be surrounded by a wonderful group of healthcare professionals that have worked so hard to help keep him healthy through the past several years.

To honor Steve’s passion for rebuilding old cars, memorials may be made to the Edwards County High School Automotive Department and will be accepted at Nale’s.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 12:00 (noon) to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2024 at Nale’s Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at Graceland Cemetery.
