Sue Ann (Knackmus) Newport, 77, of Albion, quietly passed away at her home on Wednesday June 26, 2019, after several months of failing health. She had just turned 77 years old, six days earlier. Sue was a lifelong resident of Edwards County.
She was born June 20, 1942 to Dale Rudolph & Lorene Mae (Mason) Knackmus at home east of West Salem. Sue was a graduate of Albion High School. Sue received Queen runner-up for one of the West Salem Chowders. Sue Ann was united in marriage on June 29, 1962 in West Salem to Paul Edward Newport, of the West Village community, of Albion. To this union one child was born, Paula (Newport) Thompson. Sue owned several businesses throughout her lifetime. She owned and operated Sue’s Sewing Center and Baby World in Albion for 16 years. Later she had a second hand store in Albion and later one in West Salem.
Surviving are her husband, Paul and daughter, Paula & Walter Thompson of Ellery; Two grandsons, Walter & Amanda Thompson Jr of Albion, Bob & Brynn Thompson of Toledo, Illinois,
One great grandchild Paisley Quinn Thompson of Toledo and two step great grandchildren Laureli and Eli Seibert of Albion.
Three sisters, Roberta Matthews of Fairfield, Judy & Earl Loudermilk of West Salem, Darla & Jim York of Mt. Carmel; and four brothers, Donny & Ella Knackmus of West Salem, Arthur Knackmus of West Salem, Dale Knackmus Jr. of Albion, and Jack & Cheryl Knackmus Sr. of West Salem;
Preceding her in death were her parents and one grandson, Zachary Ryan Arnold, who passed in 1986.
Graveside services will be held at the West Village Cemetery, northwest of Albion, at 2:00 pm on Sunday, June 30, 2019. Friends and family are asked to go directly to the cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorials can be made to the West Village Church for their cemetery upkeep or to Samaria Missionary Baptist Church and will be accepted at the graveside or at Nale’s Funeral Home of Albion who is in charge of the arrangements.
