Obituary

61 year old Benton resident, formerly of Geff, IL (Wayne County) Alan K. Martin, passed away at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital, in Mt. Vernon, IL., on Saturday, June 3, 2023. Alan had battled cancer for the past few years.

Alan was born on July 13, 1961 in Fairfield, Illinois to Ray H. and Carolyn (Wagner) Martin. He was raised in Geff, IL. where he lived for numerous years.  Alan started his work career at the age of 15 as a “soda jerk” at the Corner Candy Store in Fairfield, IL. He worked numerous jobs during his life, the most current was with National Railway in Mt. Vernon, IL. Alan had a passion for race horses which he worked with for several years in DuQuion, IL and loved car racing.

He is survived by a daughter Amanda (Josh) King of Paducah, Ky. 1 son Eric Martin of Mill Shoals, IL.  2 sisters, Gail Morgan of Mt. Carmel, IL and Raelene (Fred) Triggs of Geff, IL. 2 Grandchildren Jacy King and Jentry King of Paducah, KY. and 2 nieces

Alan is preceded in death by his Parents, an infant Son, a Brother-in-Law and his Grandparents.

Per Alan’s wishes his body will be cremated and private family services will be held.
