63-year-old former Fairfield, Illinois resident Art R. Carter of Manteca, California died May 5, 2012 at Modesto, California. He worked as an industrial mechanic at Airtex Products in Fairfield and later for Tracey Defense in California. Art served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Art was born April 29, 1949 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois to Bert and Gusta Hiley Carter. On March 25, 1995 he was united in marriage to Elsie Hong. Survivors include his wife Elsie; 2 daughters Nicole Carter and Susan Carter both of Manteca, California; 4 brothers Danny Carter of Springfield, Illinois, Kenneth Carter of Winnewick, Washington, Gerald Carter of Greenfield, Indiana, and Richard Carter of Lafayette, Indiana; 4 sisters Rose Simpson of Barnhill, Illinois, Dorothy Clevenger of Mill Shoals, Illinois, Patty Larck of Argenta, Illinois, and Rebecca Lane of Fairfield, Illinois; as well as 2 grandchildren. His parents, 3 brothers, 2 sisters preceded him in death. Graveside services for Art R. Carter will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Shrewsbury Cemetery in Mill Shoals with Brother Larry Gwaltney officiating. The Anthony Wayne American Legion Post 176 and Wayne Memorial VFW Post 4535 will conduct full military rites. Family and friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery for the service. There will be no visitation. Nales Funeral Home in Fairfield is in charge of the arrangements.
