94 year old former Golden Gate resident, Betty Irene Elliott, passed away on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Fairfield Memorial Hospital. Betty was born in Akron, Ohio on July 3, 1927 to Ellis and Opal (West) Skinner. Betty married Raymond (Sam) Elliott on September 10, 1950 in Edwards County, Illinois
Betty graduated from Edwards County High School in 1945. She worked over 30 years as a cook at Golden Gate School, Merriam Grade School and The Dyball House. Many have fond memories of her home made rolls and other wonderful baked goods. She served as Clerk for Leech Township for 36 years, was a charter member of the Women of the Moose and was a lifelong member of the Golden Gate United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Rita Jo Elliott and son, Ellis Ray (Janice) Elliott, along with sisters Carmen (Jim) Kunce, Lois Pierce, Rhonda (Lee) Briley and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers Jack and Kenneth (Max) and sister Ona Colyer.
Funeral services for Betty Elliott will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 21, 2021 at Nale’s Funeral Home in Fairfield. Visitation will be Thursday morning 11:30 a.m. till time of service. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery, Ellery, Illinois. Donations can be made to Bethel Cemetery. Nale’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
