58-year-old former Wayne County resident Cara M. Spicer of Gary, Indiana died August 27, 2011 at Munster, Indiana. Over the course of her life, Cara was a singer, artist, millwright apprentice, hair stylist/colorist, salon manager and adjunct professor of Public Affairs at Indiana University Northwest. During the last 5 years of her life she worked as program officer at the Legacy Foundation of Lake County assisting non-profit organizations to find resources. Cara was born September 22, 1953 in Fairfield, Illinois to Charles and Eva Mossburger McManis. She was united in marriage to Steve Spicer. Survivors include her husband Steve of Gary, Indiana, her mother Eva wife of Bill Marvel of Fairfield, a son Sam Spicer and his wife Nicole of Munster, Indiana, 1 sister Jeanne Johnson and her husband Cedric of Superior, Wisconsin, 2 grandchildren Annabelle and Phineas Spicer of Munster, Indiana, as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins. Her father Charles McManis preceded Cara in death. A Memorial Graveside service will be conducted 4:00 p.m. Saturday, September 8, 2012 at Shrewsbury Cemetery in Mill Shoals. Friends and family are asked to go directly to the cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorial may be made to Legacy Foundation of Lake County, Merrillville, Indiana and envelopes are available at Nales Funeral Home in Fairfield.
