97-year-old former Fairfield and Albion, Illinois resident Charles L. Stefl of Grayville, Illinois died at 7:20 a.m. Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Meadowood Nursing Home in Grayville, Illinois. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy and then worked for the U.S. Government in New York and Ohio retiring in 1998 when he moved back to this area. Charles was a member of the VFW and formerly attended Grayville United Methodist Church.
Charles was born April 21, 1920 in Fairfield, Illinois to Stephen Stefl and Suzanna Knapek Stefl. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Mauer.
Survivors include a son Steve Stefl of Grayville, Illinois; a daughter Suzanna Stefl Nassen and her husband Kent of Pinckney, Michigan; 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and 5 sisters.
Graveside services for Charles L. Stefl will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday January 10, 2018 at Maple Hill Cemetery in Fairfield, Illinois.
Visitation will be conducted Wednesday January 10, 2017 from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 p.m. at Nales Funeral Home in Fairfield, Illinois.
Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
