Colleen (Smith) Hale

96 year old former Albion resident, Colleen Smith Hale, passed away at Wabash Christian Retirement Village in Carmi, IL on Friday, June 2, 2023.

Colleen was the only child of Claude (Red) and Bertha (Shults) Smith. She was born July 30, 1926 in Bearden, OK. Colleen married Maurice Hale on August 11, 1947. They were married 47 years before his passing in 1994.  The couple spent most of their years in Wyoming, Colorado & Oklahoma. After semi retiring and moving back to Illinois, they purchased Edwards County Lanes in Albion, Illinois. Colleen loved bowling, playing cards, watching sports and game shows.

She is survived by 2 daughters; Pam (Ron) Jones of Fairfield and Cathy (Randy) Hall of Tishomingo, OK. 1 son; Jeff Hale of Albion, Illinois.  7 grandchildren;  Marla Xanders, Amy and Sammie Matthews, Becky and Billy Brooks, Shawna and Ronnie Baker, Stacy and Marty Pope, Trenton Hale, Zach Hale.  11 Great grandchildren.

Colleen is preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Danny Xanders.

Graveside services for Colleen Smith Hale will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at the Odd Fellows Cemetery at Norris City, Illinois.  Friends and family are asked to go directly to the cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Wayne County Senior Citizens and will be accepted at Nale’s Funeral Home in Fairfield.
