Gary W. Russell

83 year old former Fairfield resident, Gary Wade Russell, of St. Cloud, Florida passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2024 from complications of cancer.  Gary was born on May 27, 1940 to Lewis "Red" Frederick and Marvelene (Clark) Russell in Fairfield, Illinois  Gary was one of two children and is survived by his brother, Lelan Russell of Mt. Vernon, Illinois.

Gary graduated from Lindenwood College in St. Louis, Missouri with a management degree.  He spent most of his career working for Braniff Airlines and US Airways.  After retiring from the airlines, he worked part time an additional twenty years fro H & R Block preparing taxes.

Gary met Betty Cravens in high school in Fairfield, Illinois and married in 1960.  Betty predeceased him in death.  Gary and Betty had two children, Traci and Todd Russell.  Both currently residing in Florida.

Gary enjoyed reading, boating and traveling in his earlier years.  The family spent many years while the children were growing up in Lake St. Louis, Missouri.  His later years were spent spent in St. Cloud, Florida.  Gary dearly loved boating and fishing.  He loved the home he and his wife built in 1980 in St. Cloud, Florida.  He spent much time remodeling and working on home projects.  He especially enjoyed sitting on the back porch enjoying the beautiful sinsets and hosting family gatherings.  Another highlight for Gary was the adventures he and his brother, Lelan enjoyed on their annual trip to Key West.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Betty.

He is survived by his brother, Lelan and Dee Russell. Children; Traci Russell and Todd and Laura Russell.  Grand children;  Jenna Russell and Piper Russell.  Nephews; Rusty and Rhonda Russell, Wes and Lisa Russell and Murray and Sandi Russell.

Graveside services for Gary Wade Russell will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Maple Hill Cemetery in Fairfield, Illinois.  Friends and family are asked to go directly to the cemetery.
