Gayala Ann (Walter) Blackford

77 year old Fairfield, Illinois resident Gayala Ann Blackford passed away 7:40 p.m. Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Fairfield Memorial Hospital's comfort room. Gayala retired from Champion Laboratories in Albion, had been a caregiver to many over the years, and was a licensed cosmetologist. She was a faithful member of the Gospel Assembly Church in Mill Shoals and was a proud member of the DAR, Kiwanis, Home Extension, Phi Gamma Chi Sorority and had volunteered many hours at Fairfield Memorial Hospital.

Gayala was born October 26, 1941 in Mill Shoals, Illinois to Percy and Leona Mae (Shaw) Walter. She first married Bonner Lee Alligood and later married Billie Blackford on April 22, 1988 in Paducah, KY and he preceded her in death on January 20, 2012.

Survivors include one daughter, April McGill and her husband Tim of Panama City Beach, Florida and two sons, R. Scott Alligood and his wife Emma of Atlanta, Georgia and Michael Alligood and his wife Kathy of Hume, Illinois; One brother, Ronald Owen Walker and his wife Beverly of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Eight grandchildren, four step grandchildren and seven great grandchildren and six step great grandchildren.

Gayala was preceded in death by her husband Billie, her parents and three sisters.

A memorial service will be held on Friday evening, February 8th, 2019 at 6:00 pm at the Gospel Assembly Church in Mill Shoals, Illinois with Brother Brian Vaught officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Gospel Assembly Church and will be accepted at the church or Nale's Funeral Home in Fairfield.
