88-year-old Fairfield, Illinois resident, George "Pete" Thomas died at 5:50 p.m. Friday, February 24, 2012 at Wayfair Restorium in Fairfield. He was a longtime farmer in Hamilton County, Illinois and served his country during World War II. He was a member of the Fairfield VFW and McLeansboro American Legion posts. Pete was born May 9, 1923 in Hamilton County, Illinois to George and Louetta Fuqua Thomas. On April 12, 1952 he was united in marriage to Deloris Clark in Springerton, Illinois. Survivors include his wife Deloris of Fairfield; a sister Dorothy Williams of Louisville, Kentucky; a sister-in-law Peggy Vaughan of Fairfield; a brother-in-law Jerry Clark and his wife Linda of Fairfield; as well as several nieces and nephews. His parents, husband, 3 brother, and 2 sisters preceded him in death. Graveside services for George "Pete" Thomas will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 27 at Shrewsbury Cemetery in Mill Shoals, Illinois with Brother John Reed officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Anthony Wayne American Legion and Wayne Memorial VFW Posts of Fairfield. There will be no visitation.
