87 year old Fairfield, Illinois resident Harlan K. Yates died 6:25 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2017 at the Skilled Care Unit of Fairfield Memorial Hospital in Fairfield, Illinois. He was a longtime President of Cisne State Bank in Cisne Illinois. Harlan served his country in the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1953. Harlan owned and operated Yates Insurance Agency for 22 years, started with the Cisne State Bank as a Teller in 1949, became Assistant Cashier in 1953, Cashier in 1956, Executive Vice President in 1966, President in 1982 and retired in 1999.Harlan was a member of the Cisne Christian Church in Cisne, the American Legion and VFW Posts, the Fairfield Elks Lodge, the Anthony Doherty Masonic Lodge, Ainad Shrine Temple, Wayne County Shrine Club, and Order of Eastern Star.
Harlan formerly was a member of the Wayne County United Fund in 1959, served as secretary and treasurer of the North Wayne Recreation Association, a member and treasurer of the Cisne Community Center, the local Area Council of Cub Scouts Pack 165, Director and treasurer of the Cisne Manor, Cisne Rotary Club, a Board member of the Fairfield Memorial Hospital starting in 1964, elected vice president in 1986 then president of the Board in 1994 retiring from the Board in 2011, served on the Board of WayFair Restorium starting in 1967 and was elected vice president in 1971 and president in 1984, was a trustee of the Bedford Township Fire Department serving as member, president and treasurer for 50 years, served in various Illinois Bankers Association as treasurer, secretary, and president, and on the Frontier Community College Foundation from 1978 to 2006.
Harlan was born August 16, 1929 in Rinard, Illinois to Percy Glen Yates and Beulah Thelma Gloyd Yates. He was united in marriage July 29, 1953 to Wilma J. Hilliard
Survivors include his wife Wilma Yates of Fairfield, Illinois as well as several nieces and nephews.
Harlan was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
Funeral services for Harlan K. Yates will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at Nale's Funeral Home in Fairfield, Illinois with Brother Dennis Arnold officiating. Burial with full military rites conducted by the Albion Legion and VFW Posts will be at Cisne Cemetery of Cisne, Illinois.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at Nale's Funeral Home in
Fairfield, Illinois.
Memorials may be made to the Bedford Township Fire Department or the Cisne Christian Church and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
