98-year-old Fairfield, Illinois resident Helen C. Wagner died 12:00 a.m. Monday, January 14, 2013 at her daughter's residence in St. John, Indiana. She was the legal secretary for Judge Heidinger in the 1940's and later as an administrative assistant in Washington, D.C. after he was elected to Congress. In the 1960's, Helen was the secretary at the First Christian Church in Chicago Heights. In the 1970's, she and her husband moved to Fairfield. She was a member of First Christian Church in Fairfield, the Fairfield Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for over 30 years, and a member of the Home Extension. Helen was born August 2, 1914 in Fairfield, Illinois to Charles A. and Gaynell McDannell Read. She was united in marriage to John Wagner on November 18, 1950. He preceded her in death on April 15, 1994. Surviving are 1 daughter Gail Elaine Coleman of St. John, Indiana; 1 sister-in-law Geneva Read of Fairfield, Illinois; as well as 3 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, 3 brothers, 3 sisters, and 1 son-in-law. Services for Helen C. Wagner will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Nales Funeral Home of Fairfield, Illinois with Brother Steven Lee officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be conducted from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Nale's Funeral Home in Fairfield, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Fairfield Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
