Larry R. Michels

Larry R Michels, 84, passed away Saturday August 8, 2020 at his home in Ellery, Illinois with his family at his side. He was born March 3, 1936 to Bert and Matilda (Pettigrew) Michels. He married Mary Katherine (Kate) Anniss on September 15, 1956. The two enjoyed nearly 64 years together. Larry was a long time member of the Ellery Christian Church.

Larry was raised on a farm near Ellery which started his lifelong passion for farming. He began grain and livestock farming while in high school and continued to farm up until the time of his death. He especially enjoyed working with his cattle. Larry spent many years working in the oilfield and at the local grain elevator during this time. He also enjoyed spending time with his four sons, grandkids, grand dogs, and twin great granddaughters. He was looking forward to a great grandson expected soon.

Larry is survived by his wife, Mary Katherine (Kate) Michels, four sons, Wayne (Tena) Michels of Ellery, IL, Dean (Susan) Michels of Noble, IL, Kenny (Maria) Michels of Bethany, IL, and Galen (Jennifer) Michels of Albion, IL, brother, Bert J “Bud” (Ruth) Michels of Mohall, ND, two sisters, Glenna Frankland of Albion, IL and Lavon “Jeanie” Spann of Phoenix, AZ, five grandkids, Crystal (Brock) Knackmus, Larry B (Cecilia) Michels, Deanna Michels, Erica Michels, and Tara Michels, twin great granddaughters, Brooklyn and Riley Knackmus, and several nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Matilda Michels and three sisters, Helen “Peg” Wiles, Elizabeth “Cottie” Bowers, and Geneva Cowling.

Funeral services for Larry Michels will be held Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at 10:30am at Nale’s Funeral Home in Albion with Bro. Lawrence Hurley officiating. A visitation will be on Tuesday evening, August 11, 2020 from 5pm until 7pm at the funeral home. Please observe social distancing guidelines as directed by the CDC and the State of Illinois. Burial will follow services at Bethel Cemetery in Ellery. Memorials may be made to the Ellery Christian Church or to the Edwards County Senior Citizens and will be accepted at the funeral home.
