Larry B. Odum

87 year old Fairfield,Illinois resident Larry B. Odum passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at Fairfield Memorial Hospital in Fairfield,Illinois

Larry was born on August 20, 1936 to Daniel and Eva Odum in Marion, Illinois.  Larry married Sue Reid on January 25, 1957 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri before her passing on November 16,2014.

He remains the highest scoring basketball player at Marion High School (Wildcats), where there is a new plaque bearing his name for that accomplishment.  He also ran track and throwing the discus.  Larry was a Football Tailback at the University of Florida, with a full rides scholarship.

Larry was an educator teaching English and Grammar at Fairfield Community High School for 38 years.  He was a basketball coach leading his team to state.

Larry was a member of the Fairfield Elks Club and Fairfield Country Club.

He is survived by his daughter Lara (Jim) Griswold of Fairfield, IL and 2 sisters Carol Kay of Carbondale, IL and Sandy Jo McConnell of Pittsburgh, PA

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife and 3 sisters.

The body is to be cremated with no formal services.
