Leo Witter Obituary

Leo V. Witter, 75, of Mill Shoals passed away at 5:58 a.m. Tuesday, August 18th, at the Harrisburg Medical Center in Harrisburg. He had been a resident of Gallatin Manor in Ridgway since April.

Leo was born on November 24, 1944 in Wayne County, Illinois and was one of a set of triplets born to George and Alberta (Dawson) Witter. Leo attended Fairfield Public schools and voluntarily enlisted in the Marines after high school. On April 16, 1966 Leo married Donna Tyler who survives. He worked 39 years for Airtex Products retiring in 2006. After retirement, Leo enjoyed riding his bike, visiting with friends, and helping people as much as possible. He was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church where he enjoyed singing and discussing the Bible.

Left to cherish many wonderful memories is Leo’s loving wife, Donna, three sons, Franklin (Crystal) Witter of  Wilson, NC; John (Alicia) Witter of Davenport, Iowa; David (Stacey) Witter of Newburgh, Indiana; three brothers, Harold (Anita) Witter of Barnhill; Loren Witter, of Mason; and Donald (Virginia) Witter of Fairfield and four sisters, Doris (Dennis) Cropper and Shirley Edgington of Fairfield; Dorotha (Lowell) Thackrey of Carmi; and LaDonna Calton of Bedford, Texas; Six grandchildren, Faith Witter, Chase Witter, Drew Witter, Kasey Witter, Dawson Witter, and Dessa Witter; Four step-grandchildren, Kaitlin (Nathan) Brazina, Aidan McGhee, Alyssa McGhee, and Addison McGhee and many nieces, nephews, and friends.  Preceding Leo in death were his parents and four brothers, Leon, Robert, Ronald and Lowell Witter.

Funeral services for Leo Witter will be held Monday, August 24, 2020 at noon at Nale’s Funeral Home in Fairfield. A Visitation will be from 10am until service time at the funeral home. Per the mandates from the State of Illinois and the CDC, masks are recommended with social distancing. Burial will follow in Koontz Cemetery south of Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America and will be accepted at the funeral home.
