Rodney Alan Inskeep, age 64, of Olney, Illinois, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Carle Richland Memoria l Hospital, Olney on July 3, 2018.
Born July 8, 1953 in Evansville, Indiana and raised in Albion, lllinois1 Rod graduated from Edwards . County High School in 1971. After furthering his education at United Electronics Institute in Louisville1 KY, Rod soon joined the US Air Force and proudly served our country. Upon discharge, he was employed by GTE and after a few months transferred to Texas. Occasionally, part of his job there involved working on the sideline at Dallas Cowboy football ga mes, and thus began our family tradition of eagerly looking for him on TV during the Sunday afternoon football games. Fortunate for Rod, who always longed to be back home in Illinois, he qualified for early retirement from GTE/Verizon, seized the opportunity, a nd in 2004 moved back home settling in his scenic lake house In Olney.
Rod was one of three children born to the late Joseph H. Inskeep and Dorothy Rae (Barnes) Inskeep.
Surviving are brother Phillip Inskeep and sister Deborah (Dennis) McKay; nephews and nieces Benjamin (Tonia) Inskeep, Justin (Heidi) Inskeep, Kelsie (Wes) Sterchi, Rachel (Joey) Kuenstler, and Kory Inskeep; great nieces and nephews Mikaela, Joseph, Raley, Jonathon, Elliana, Avalyn, a n d Lilliana Inskeep, Knox and Knolan Sterchi, and Oscar Kuenstler; a nd step nephew and niece, Elijaha nd Grace Masterson. Also surviving is Aunt Fan (Fra nces Barnes) Walters of Thornton, Colorado as well as numerous cousins located in several states.
Rod never married but wa s considered to be the best, most awesome uncle on the planet. Always referred to as Unk, Rod was an excellent role model and father figure to all h is nieces and nephews. Always generous and loving and oh so much fun for the kids to be around .A dog lover his entire life, sweet puppy Patch was able to join Rod a nd live happily at the lake house for the last several months. Patch was a wonderful loving companion for Rod. In no time, they developed a very special bond.
A celebration of Rod's life will be held Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Nales Funeral Home in Albion with visitation at 12:00 and the service at 1:00.
Interment will be at Zion H i l l, a family cemetery, located west of Albion. Military honors will be rendered at the cemetery.
Memorials may be made to First Christian Church Diciples of Christ, Albion, Illinois, the Humane Society of Olney Illinois, or donor' s choice.
