77-year-old rural Fairfield, Illinois resident Ross G. Carroll died 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at his residence. He worked as a switchman for Illinois Central Railroad for 30 years retiring in 1984. Ross also served as a Supply Specialist in the U.S. Air Force. Ross was born August 18, 1935 in Bluford, Illinois to Ross W. and Vina Rudd Carroll. He was united in marriage to Norma Hutchcraft on October 9, 1955 in Bluford, Illinois. Surviving are his wife Norma of Fairfield, Illinois; 2 sons Randy Carroll and his wife Christine of Berrien Springs. Michigan and Vincent Carroll of Evansville, Indiana; 2 daughters Rhonda Lambert of Evansville, Indiana and Valencia Martin of Tucson, Arizona; 6 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. Ross was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, 2 sisters, and 1 grandson. Services for Ross G. Carroll will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 31, 2012 at Nales Funeral Home in Fairfield, Illinois with Brother Bruce Horsley officiating. Following the service there will be a flag presentation by the Wayne Memorial VFW Post 4535 and Anthony Wayne American Legion Post 176. Visitation will be conducted from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Nale's Funeral Home in Fairfield. Memorials may be made to Muscular Dystrophy and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
