Roy George Gruen

92-year-old Fairfield, Illinois resident Roy George Gruen died at 5:12 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Fairfield Memorial Hospital's Skilled Care Unit. He and his wife Marie owned and operated a dairy farm north of Ohlman for many years. In 1964 they purchased the Fairfield Dairy Queen. In 1971 they built the Dairy Queen Brazier and retired in 1985. Roy was a member of the Fairfield Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Roy was born September 13, 1920 in Nokomis, Illinois to Ervin and Anna Ziefing Gruen. He was united in marriage to Laura Marie Fink on March 30, 1941. Survivors include 2 sons Richard Gruen and his wife Theresa of Fairfield, Illinois and William Gruen and his wife Debra of Ashland, Illinois; 9 grandchildren Ron and his wife Amanda of Lenoir, North Carolina, Brian and his wife Joni of Plainfield, Illinois, William, Jr. and his wife Julie of Salem, Illinois, Jeanette of Springfield, Illinois, Brad and his wife Amanda of East Alton, Illinois, Matt and his wife Katy of Highland, Illinois, Eric and his wife Katie of Fairfield, Illinois, Jim of Mt. Zion, Illinois, and Janet and her husband John of Pana, Illinois; 20 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a brother-in-law Fritz Rakers of Oconee, Illinois. Roy was preceded in death by his wife Marie, his parents, a son George, and 1 great granddaughter. Services for Roy Gruen will be 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Nales Funeral Home in Fairfield, Illinois with Brother Chet Snyder officiating. Following the service the body will be taken to McCracken-Dean Funeral Home in Pana, Illinois where services will be held Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be in Rosamond Grove Cemetery at Rosamond, Illinois. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at Nales Funeral Home of Fairfield, Illinois and from 1:30 to service time Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at McCracken-Dean Funeral Home in Pana, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Fairfield Memorial Hospital Skilled Care Unit or the church of your choice and envelopes will be available at Nales Funeral Home.
