Velda Y. (Gwaltney) Savage

81 year old Fairfield resident, Velda Y. Savage passed away at Aperion Care in Fairfield on Thursday, November 10, 2022. Velda was born November 20, 1940 in Mill Shoals, Illinois to Ernest and Alice (Newby) Gwaltney.

Velda married Pender (Red) Savage on July 8, 1957 in Valparaiso, Indiana.  She worked at the Fairfield Dress Factory, as well as many other garment factories for many years. Velda was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fairfield, Illinois

Velda is survived by her husband, Pender (Red) Savage of Fairfield, two sons, David (Donna) Savage of Fairfield, Bill (Brenda) Savage of St. Clair, Missouri, one daughter, Julie (Jeff) Thompson of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, five grandchildren, Rhiannon (Bobby) Bridgeman of Fairfield, Ian (Whitney) Savage of Evansville, Indiana, Ryan Savage of St. Clair, Missouri, Travis (Natalie) Thompson of Mt Carmel, Illinois, Trenton Thompson of Evansville, Indiana and five great-grandchildren, Jace, Logan and Garrett Bridgeman, Rylan Vaught and Mattingly Brock.

Velda was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Elmer, Wilburn and Paul Gwaltney

Funeral services for Velda Savage will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 14, 2022 at Nale’s Funeral Home. Visitation will be Monday, 12:00 p.m. until time of service. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and will be accepted at Nale’s Funeral Home.
