100 year old Fairfield, Illinois resident Vera Lee Cox died at 6:35 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2017 at WayFair Nursing & Rehab in Fairfield, Illinois. She owned and operated the Grill Café for 18 years. Later she worked as the medical records secretary at Fairfield Memorial Hospital for 25 years. Vera was a member of the First Christian Church in Fairfield and served as the organist for 60 years.
Vera was born September 19, 1916 in Geff, Illinois to Pearly Miller and Eva Schell Miller. She was united in marriage February 20, 1935 in Carmi, Illinois to Leland Cox who died October 5, 1966.
Survivors include a son Ric Cox of Princeville, Hawaii; 2 daughters Kay Vertrees of Pekin, Illinois and Judy Gruner and her husband James of Fairfield, Illinois; and 3 grandchildren. 5 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents and husband Leland.
Graveside services for Vera Lee Cox will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Maple Hill Cemetery in Fairfield, Illinois.
There will be no visitation. Family and friends should go directly to the cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church Mission Fund or the Fairfield Memorial Hospital Foundation and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
