91 year old Fairfield resident, Willis “Gene” Nixon passed away Thursday afternoon November 5, 2020 at Aperion Care in Fairfield.
Gene was born at home to Daisy (Sharp) and Willie Nixon on September 3, 1929 in rural Wayne County. Gene had worked in the oil fields for Independent Oil Company for many years and on various local farms. He could often be found riding his bicycle around town or fishing at some of his favorite spots.
Left to remember a wonderful father, brother, and friend, is daughter Misti (Ryan) Thomason of Fairfield, Sisters Janie Lampp of Mt. Vernon and Maxine Nixon of Washington Park, Illinois, Brother, Harold Nixon of Mt. Vernon and many nieces and nephews. Preceding Gene in death were his parents, one sister, and four brothers--Kenneth, Delbert Dean, Henry and Orin Nixon.
Per Gene’s request, cremation will be accorded and a private family celebration of life gathering will take place at a later date with burial in Richland Cemetery southwest of Fairfield. Condolences may be left for the family at www.nalesfuneralhome.com. Nale’s Funeral Home of Fairfield is assisting the family. Memorials can be made to the family for funeral expenses and will be accepted at the funeral home.
